Best Nature and Parks (RV, National, Dog, etc) in Gatlinburg
"When you visit the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, why not start off by hiking up to Clingmans Dome, the highest point in the Smokies at 6,643 feet.
From the car park, it’s a relatively steep half-mile walk to the observation tower on the summit, but our kids handled it no problem and on a clear day you get spectacular 360° views of the Smokies and beyond – a great spot for sunrise and sunset."
"At 6,643 feet, Clingmans Dome is the highest point in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. That’s why it’s no secret that the Clingmans Dome Observation Tower offers the best views of the mountains!. On clear days, views can expand over 100 miles."
"Before dinner, we made our way to World’s Fair Park to check into the Tennessean Hotel, which just opened in April next door to the Holiday Inn. The rooms are airy and gorgeous with some stunning works of art, and we had a view of the park below us. We were also just a five-minute walk from Market Square, so we left our car valeted at the hotel for much of the week and explored Knoxville by foot."

What makes it great: This park offers a quarry that’s great for paddling, as well as a scenic overlook (one of several) that is just a short walk from the parking area."
Laurel Falls Trail

Popular 2.6-mile hiking route through old-growth forest with waterfall views & a lookout tower.
"If you’d prefer to see a waterfall without even getting out of your car, Meigs Falls is a great choice. You can stay in the comfort of your vehicle and pull off the road to enjoy the falls, which are located roughly 500 feet away and can be seen through the trees. During the late fall and winter, when all the leaves are gone, the falls become even more visible, making the view even more dramatic."
"The first item on this list is probably the most difficult to find. Rainbow Falls Cave is a little-known cave in the wilderness of the Smokies that has a waterfall falling into it. The only way to reach the cave is to go off official trails on a footpath to an area that used to serve as homesteads for the former residents of the National Park."

"Baskins Creek Falls is located along the Roaring Fork Motor Trail, which is a beautiful area in the Smoky Mountains in the fall. You’ll see the fall colors and a waterfall along this 3-mile round trip trail. At the beginning of this hike, you’ll have some great views of the mountains covered in fall foliage."
"Relative to their popularity, this 40-foot, two-tiered waterfall just might be the most underrated falls in the Great Smoky Mountains. It's also a great place to kick back and enjoy a picnic."

Group of historic log farm buildings, moved here in the 1950s, with living history exhibits.
"The Mountain Farm Museum commemorates some of the homes and structures built by pioneers during the 19th century. Most of the buildings were relocated to the museum during the 1950s, although the barn, built in 1880, is still in its original location. The open-air museum includes a rustic log cabin built around 1900, an icehouse used for refrigeration, a blacksmith shop, and two corn cribs, among other things."
"Step back into history inside the unique Mountain Farm Museum. Walk through a farmstead of structures carefully preserved from the last century, including a log farmhouse, a barn and apple house, a springhouse, and a working blacksmith shop. Explore and learn how families lived in the mountains 100 years ago."
"The Ramseys were one of the first families to settle in Knoxville and were very involved in the local community. In 1797, the city’s first builder, Thomas Hope, constructed the Historic Ramsey House using Tennessee pink marble and blue limestone. Today, it sits on more than 101 acres (41ha) and has been restored and furnished to reflect the period of the Ramsey family’s occupancy."
"Along with James White’s Fort, the Ramsey House is one of the oldest buildings in Knoxville, dating back to the 1790s. The house is an excellent example of Late Georgian architecture, featuring significant ornamentation for the time period. Its owner, Francis Ramsey, was a surveyor and government official, and his son was one of the first mayors of Knoxville."
"The Little House of Pancakes in Gatlinburg has a delicious breakfast menu that not only includes pancakes, but has waffles and omelette too!. Don’t skip over them at lunchtime, though. Their hamburgers and salads can really hit the spot."
