There are several options for horseback riding in the Great Smoky Mountains although none of the riding stables offer unguided trail rides. If you prefer an unguided ride, you will need to bring your own horse as there are equestrian trails in the Great Smoky Mountains, but it is recommended that only experienced riders take unguided trail rides. Some of the riding companies do have weight limits although not all have them. Spring and summer are the peak season with some riding stables closing during the fall and winter.
