Nearly two centuries ago, farmers brought their grains to a newly constructed grist mill located on the river where their crops were converted to flour and meal for cooking. As the new mill gained popularity, a little town known as Pigeon Forge grew. The mill is now the oldest continuously operating grist mill in the United States. It is also the most photographed, drawing visitors from all over the world. Today, you can shop in the mill’s general store, the farmhouse kitchen or the pottery. There is also a restaurant, café, creamery and candy kitchen. Be sure to grab food for $1 and feed the geese and ducks that call the river home and parents will want to stop in at the distillery for some samples of their moonshine, bourbon, rum, vodka and more.
