Close to a large parking area is the Ogle homestead, built in the late 19th century by Noah “Bud” Ogle homestead consists of a cabin, barn and tub mill. The land was cleared by William Ogle although he never lived there as he died of malaria after returning to his home in South Carolina before he could move his family to Tennessee. A few years later, his wife, Martha, moved to the land and the cabin was constructed by Noah, becoming the first European settlers in Gatlinburg. Many of the trails have preserved structures, including mills, churches and log homes.
